My BIG Book of Bible Stories

A man had a vineyard. An honest, fair man.
And this honest, fair man really needed a hand…
“I’ll give you all one whole denarius each,
if you’re willing to work,” he besought and beseeched,
“in my fields for the day, where you’ll trudge and you’ll traipse
back and forth, up and down as you harvest my grapes.”

Featured Sermon: Marks of a God Given Ministry, Part One

False spiritual leadership – those who operate under the banner of religion but who are really unconverted and un-commissioned, are of great threat to any church. The Colossian Christians were facing heresy by false teachers and Paul’s letter was purposeful in its intent to clarify the truth. Without a Gospel-centered ministry, a church risks being directed by notions and whims.

Listener Stories: Week 8, 2012

Just a side note, the station doesn't come in too clearly, so I have to dance around the cell to find a signal. It's a lot of work, but worth it.

Featured Sermon: Established and Firm

Paul reminds his readers that the relevance of “who Jesus is” is found in the personal application of one’s faith. It is futile to deal with the deep theological aspects of Jesus if we are lacking in love for Him. We are challenged in this message to pinpoint a defining moment in our lives when we have been changed through God’s grace from beyond what we once were.

Certain about a time to come

Where will you be in 100 years? How much time have you spent considering how the reality of heaven affects your daily life here on earth? In this month's featured offer, Paul Wolfe writes:

"There is so much un-certainty that surrounds the subject of heaven: What is that place like? What does Jesus look like? When precisely will I arrive there? And what will it be like in death to go there? In the midst of all that uncertainty, it was jarring to hear myself speak with certainty about a time to come, identifiable on the calendar, when I will no longer be here but there..."

Setting Our Sights On Heaven

In recent months, we’ve seen increased interest of heaven. This interest has been reflected in The New York Times bestseller list, which has been littered with books about this subject. These books contain “firsthand” accounts of people’s experiences in heaven, which they’ve returned to tell us about.

What is it about heaven that captures our attention? Is it the unknown and the speculative nature of it that gives us a place to exercise our imagination? Or is there something far deeper inside of us that longs to be in God’s place?

Listener Stories: Week 5, 2012

Dear Pastor Begg, First and foremost thank you for doing the Truth For Life broadcasts. I first found out about you from my mother. At first I was timid about listening to you because at the time my father was in Iraq and I was getting bullied. So, I did not know what to believe, but my mom kept encouraging me to listen to you. I had listened to many other podcasts and they were all the same, saying the same old thing. Then I listened to you and you said nothing I had ever heard before. You spoke with authority and not just reading scripture. Anyways, I am currently writing this letter for my 7th grade English class. For many an hour I worried about who I was going to write to so as usual I listen to you when I become worried. Then, it hit me I should write to you because you have made a crater-sized impact on my life. I was hoping that maybe you personally would be able to make some time in order to write me back. I thank you again for teaching me about the Bible and helping me understand it.
-Harrison

Leaving A Legacy: the Gospel

Paul’s second letter to Timothy expressed an urgent desire for the Gospel of Jesus Christ to be preserved by Timothy and by future generations. His letter came at a time of great confusion and chaos in the culture, when reassurance was necessary. Anyone without faith in Christ would have considered the Gospel and Christianity to be on the brink of extinction.

Wallpaper: Hymn "I've Found a Friend"

I’ve found a Friend, O such a friend! He loved me ere I knew Him;
He drew me with the cords of love, and thus He bound me to Him;
And round my heart still closely twine those ties which naught can sever,
For I am His, and He is mine, forever and forever.
-James G. Small, 1863

Featured Sermon: Who Is Jesus Christ?

Ask a neighbor, coworker, or family member “Who is Jesus Christ?” and you may be hard-pressed to find a clear and correct answer. There is much confusion in today’s culture concerning Christ – who He is and the nature of His character. The early church was also confused, and the book of Colossians was written by the apostle Paul to help clarify that the truth of Christ is vital to Christianity. If Christ is not the Savior of all mankind, our world is hopeless; if Christ is the Savior of the world, then we must worship Him.

Letter From Alistair: The Truth At Cost

Dear Friends,

There is never a day that goes by without the lyric of a song or a hymn coming into my mind and influencing my thinking. Perhaps it's because it is now February, the month of Valentine's Day, that I have awakened with the words of "How Deep the Father's Love for Us" by Stuart Townend on my mind:

How deep the Father's love for us, How vast beyond all measure, That He should give His only Son, To make a wretch His treasure...
