In this message, Paul summarizes his instruction to the Colossians and explains that receiving Christ is not the end, but the beginning of life. The Colossians longed for Christ and here Paul encourages them to grow further in the foundation of their faith by reminding them of past realities and directing them in their present activities.

Did Jesus of Nazareth really rise from the dead? Of the many world religions, only one claims that its founder returned from the grave. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the very cornerstone of Christianity. In our sophisticated age, when myth has given way to science, who can take seriously a claim of a dead man coming back to life?

Self-help books are not shy on advice for contemporary marriage. In fact, it is common for present-day culture to advance the presumption that a happy and fulfilling marriage is ultimately defined in terms of our own self-gratification. Likewise, bookstores often dedicate entire sections of books to the topic of parenting, many of which overlook the fundamentals of childhood obedience and respect.

In a culture where crosses have become little more than decorative accessories and jewelry, it is easy for even the well-intended Christian to rush through the Easter season without thoughtfully contemplating the crucifixion of Christ and all that it means.

Paul identifies the marks of those who teach under false pretenses. He instructs the Colossians to be mature in their faith and distinguish between those who belong to Christ and those who do not. He warns to avoid false teachers who commend themselves, who preach by consensus, who preach out of envy or rivalry and who preach for profit. These challenges continue to be relevant to Christians today.

"Where are you, Adam?" and "What have you done?" are two questions asked of a man whose disobedience altered the course of human history. While these jarring questions were posed thousands of years ago, they still have striking relevance for us today.

Dear Truth For Life, I live in Birmingham, AL and I love listening to Truth For Life broadcast on WLJR at 8:00 in the morning after I drop my son off at school. I have several "Mom" friends that also listen to the broadcast on the radio or online at our computers at home. We are all encouraged and lovingly admonished by the Holy Spirit through these broadcasts. We are truly thankful for the radio broadcast of Alistair Begg's sermons. We all also belong to a church with a faithful, Bible-teaching pastor. By God's grace, we are not lacking for excellent teaching. However, it is good to have a healthy diet of good teaching from several sources. Thank you Pastor Begg for being honest, bold, transparent, and faithful in your teaching! By the way, the humor is refreshing as well! :-) God Bless You, Your sister in Christ.

In every generation one subject remains a source of fascination and fear: DEATH. Is it really the end? What happens afterwards?

At a time when people are increasingly preoccupied with stories of "out-of-body" experiences and are wondering about reincarnation, the 15th chapter of First Corinthians is unique and striking in its impact. Here is the classical Christian discussion of the most vital subject. We do well to pay careful attention so that in a matter marked by great confusion we might learn to speak with clarity and conviction. In learning how to die, we find the key to learning how to live.

No different from today, the early church was challenged to dismiss conflicting influences and remain rooted in the truth of the Gospel. In his letter to the Colossians, the Apostle Paul warned the church in Colossae to reject worldly falsehoods, superstition, mythology and even error in doctrinal translation – all influences still prevalent today.

Two-thousand years ago, Jesus preached a sermon that, still today, has the potential to turn our lives upside down. In Luke 6, Jesus preaches the Sermon on the Mount and issues a declaration for Christian living. Wealth, popularity, happiness – these qualities are hotly pursued in most modern cultures. In fact, for the average person, these values may be at the top of the list. But for the Christian, all of that is turned on its head.

Dear Friends,

Growing up as a boy in Scotland, many of my friends were Jewish. I have vivid recollections of leaving their homes on wintry Friday afternoons as their mothers lit the candles and prepared for the celebration of the Sabbath. I must confess to a certain amount of envy when I think of the way in which Sabbath worship begins for my orthodox Jewish friends. It seems to me that to recite the Shema with such regularity reaffirms God’s covenant promise from generation to generation...
