The trouble is that a postmodern view of history has taken a grip of many (non) thinkers. History is seen only through the eye of the recipient and, just as you can have a pick ‘n’ mix theology, so you can have a pick ‘n’ mix view of history.

Paul was warned by the disciples in Caesarea not to go to Jerusalem. One man even demonstrated how once in the city, Paul would be bound and handed over to the Gentiles by the Jews (Acts 21:11). Paul was insistent, though, and willing to risk imprisonment, even death, for the name of the Lord Jesus.

The church in Jerusalem was composed largely of Jews who wanted to maintain as many of their Jewish traditions as possible. There are ways in which that might be done rightly, at least in part, just as German Christians can retain certain German customs while still being Christians, and so on. But it was more complicated than that in this case.

After encouraging the Ephesian church leaders, Paul travelled by ship to Jerusalem for Pentecost. Luke was his travel companion. They made the trip by sea, then by land. Only a short time was spent in each city throughout the trip; just a day or two in some places, and a week in others, as dictated by the boat’s shipment unloading schedule.
