No different from today, the early church was challenged to dismiss conflicting influences and remain rooted in the truth of the Gospel. In his letter to the Colossians, the Apostle Paul warned the church in Colossae to reject worldly falsehoods, superstition, mythology and even error in doctrinal translation – all influences still prevalent today.
