Series: Behind the Scenes of ChristmasBehind the Scenes of Christmas

The fullness of time had come. God sent his Son into the world to seek and to save what was lost. In this series, Alistair draws from four key New Testament passages to take us behind the scenes, as it were, of the familiar Christmas story. The baby in the manger, he reminds us, is none other than the Lord of eternity; the birth of Mary’s son is nothing less than the arrival of the eternal Word into the world.

To a generation that does not know who Christ is, why he came or why it matters, these central elements of the Christian faith remain as timely as ever. Alistair urges upon his listeners the importance of keeping a fuller understanding of the redemptive purposes of God and the necessity of the Incarnation in mind as they consider the birth of Jesus. A Christmas that misses this, he says, is a Christmas that misses everything.

Series: A Child is BornA Child Is Born

Most of us know George Frideric Handel’s oratorio chorus “Messiah,” and at Christmas time we are delighted by the sounds of its most famous song, the “Hallelujah Chorus.” How many of us, though, are aware that this song can only truly be sung after an earlier set proclaims, “For Unto Us a Child is Born”?

The words for this song are taken from Isaiah 9, which describes a scene of darkness, gloom and oppression that is pierced with the light of dawn. For centuries, the Jewish people envisioned and expected a great warrior king who would save them from their oppressors. But God chose a child instead, a baby born in lowly circumstances, to save people from their spiritual oppression.

In this series of messages Alistair Begg describes who this child is and what earns him the right to be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and the Prince of Peace. Celebrate the great news that A Child is Born!

Series: Navigating the NativityNavigating the Nativity

For many people, the story of Christmas often stops when we gaze sentimentally at the cradle of baby Jesus in the Nativity scene. But if you take a moment to really consider the scene, you might be surprised at the questions that arise: Who is baby Jesus? Why was He born in a manger in Bethlehem? Where did He come from? Who sent Him? What mission did He come to accomplish?

In this two-part series, Alistair Begg examines the answers to these questions and more that are raised by Christ’s incarnation. As we navigate the Nativity, we will have a better understanding of Jesus and the entire story of the Bible.

Series: Songs for a SaviorSongs of A Savior

Many of us have our favorite Christmas carols that center on angels singing songs, shepherds watching flocks, and wise men giving gifts. However, Luke records the very first Christmas songs, sung by Mary, Zechariah and Simeon.

Unlike our modern carols, these don’t revolve around the nativity scenes or the events of Christ birth; rather they focus on the Savior himself. In Christ’s birth, God supernaturally breaks into the ordinary naturalness of human history, by revealing himself as the Savior of the world.

In these three songs for a Savior, Mary, Zechariah, and Simeon praise the Lord for remembering His people in providing salvation, redemption and mercy. Join Alistair Begg to celebrate the birth of the Savior with the songs sung at His birth.
