Why Celebrate Pastor’s Appreciation Month?

Previous Next

The month of October is dedicated as “Pastor’s Appreciation Month.” While we can encourage and thank our pastors throughout the year, October is set aside as a specific time to express our gratitude towards them and endeavor to be a blessing to them.

Part of our mission at Truth For Life is to strengthen local churches, which we believe is fundamentally accomplished by the relevant and clear teaching of God’s Word. Christ, in his sovereignty and wisdom, has established the local church as the primary mechanism for preaching, fellowship, worship, growth and service. Pastors have been called and appointed by God to teach the Bible and to shepherd their flock, which takes diligence, dedication, time and energy.

It is Truth For Life’s goal to encourage you, as our listeners and supporters, to take this month’s opportunity to genuinely thank your pastor for all the work he does and the leadership he displays and to spur him on as a brother in Christ. We are suggesting to you some resources that we think would be of encouragement, blessing and benefit to your pastors. And if you’re not involved in a local church, we would urge you to find a church near you that is committed to the clear teaching of Scripture and start attending and serving.

Here are some ideas for ways that you can encourage and thank your pastor:

Basics 2012

Every year, about 1,000 pastors, seminarians and church leaders gather at Parkside Church for a 3-day conference specifically designed to encourage pastors. The conference includes messages from God's Word from pastors to pastors, workshops about topics facing pastors today, panel question times, and lots of great food and time to fellowship and encourage one another. Unlike other mega-conferences, this conference is intentionally small and personal, a type of retreat and soul-encouragement for pastors from their busy lives.

On May 14-16, 2012, Alistair Begg has invited Mark Dever and Bruce Milne to join him for this year's conference. Why not sponsor your pastor to attend this conference in May and have time to be encouraged by God's Word and other local pastors? Early bird registration for the conference is now open.

The Pastor’s Study Five Volume Set

by Alistair Begg

Paul's words in 2 Timothy 4:2-5 are the mandate for all those who are called to pastoral ministry. Martyn Lloyd-Jones once commented that "the work of preaching is the highest and greatest and most glorious calling to which anyone can ever be called." He went on to say that "the most urgent need in the Christian church today is for true preaching and as it is the greatest and most urgent need in the church it is, obviously, the greatest need in the world also." To a generation in which the priority of preaching has been sadly diminished, the apostolic mandate remains. As a pastor places his confidence in the power of the Gospel itself, as applied by the Holy Spirit, the task of proclamation must be his clear priority. We trust that these studies will prove to be a great encouragement to pastors in this God-given task. As we remain true to this calling those in our congregation will become mature and grounded in the sound doctrine which is essential to all spiritual growth.
