How can a sinful person become right with God? And how can God acquit the guilty? This study in Romans 3:21-26 reminds us of the truth that spurred the Reformation: justification is based on God's work of counting our sins against Christ and crediting the righteousness of Christ to our account. It is by faith alone, in Christ alone, and through grace alone.

Along with love and truth, Colossians 3 instructs us that the church is to be marked by peace and the Word of God. Where differences threaten our fellowship, how do we find this peace? By remembering the lengths Jesus went to on Calvary, we are motivated to let His peace rule in our hearts and to pursue peace in our relationships with each other. When a deep love for His Word inspires us, we not only read and study it, but consider its meaning and how to apply it in our lives.

What should life be like in the local church? Church is not a building or a large group of people engaged in religious activities. The church should be a dynamic new community based on truth and love. In a world where people rationalize truth to be whatever it requires fitting their needs and often forgets to love others, we need to take time to reflect on Paul’s writing to the Colossians which is relevant today. Jesus came into the world to testify to the truth and when we love intelligently, sacrificially, continually, increasingly, purposely and deeply we are truly in ...

Many people perceive religion as an external add-on that doesn’t affect the rest of their lives at all. But Paul encourages the Colossians to a dynamic “faith that functions” and impacts every area of daily living. The Word of God is to have a central place in our lives, and our hunger for it indicates spiritual healthiness. As the Word guides our actions and choices, and also our songs of praise, we respond with thankful hearts for all that He is and has done for us.

Paul writing to the Colossians provides instructions that as God's chosen people they are to cloth themselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. As Christians, we are to be different from the world and we need to forgive others as the Lord forgave us. Join us as Alistair provides a self-examination reflecting on what it looks like to be wearing the new clothes provided by Christ.

In Mark 11:27-33, the Jewish leaders challenged Jesus to demonstrate the basis of his authority. Their question highlights the same issue that confronts everyone who considers the claims of Christ. Will we acknowledge that Jesus rightfully has authority over our lives? Or, like those in this passage, will we try to dodge the question?

| scripture | Habakkuk 1:1-4 |
| type | Sermon |

Like the Old Testament prophet Habakkuk, many of us have called out “How long, O Lord, must I call for help, but you do not listen?” The world is filled with pain, suffering and evil. If God is good and almighty, why does He allow bad things to happen? How do we reconcile what we believe about God and what is happening in the world around us?

As Christians how do we deal with indwelling sin? The earthly nature of sexual immorality, lust, greed, anger, rage, malice, slander and filthy language try to draw us from Christ each Monday morning no matter how blessed and encouraged we are during Sunday worship. The foundation in dealing with our sin is found in our relationship with Jesus Christ. By coming to the cross we are able to deal with the devil and temptations of the world and flesh. When we fall, failure need never to be final. Jesus was forsaken so we might be forgiven.
