Guarding the Gospel

1 Timothy 6:20–21  (ID: 2011)

Paul entreated Timothy to guard the Gospel and avoid engaging in pointless debates over the various details of false teaching. Alistair Begg notes that we will not be able to guard the Gospel and discern false teaching unless we know the Gospel. If the good news of Jesus is to be carried forward by future generations, we must learn to avoid rabbit-trail discussions that distract us from Christ and His work.

20O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge,” 21for by professing it some have swerved from the faith.

Grace be with you.5
