Teach Your Children Well

Dear Friends,

By the time this letter reaches you, we’ll be on the threshold of Basics 2010. When we began our pastors’ conference a decade ago, with some 40 people in attendance, we never anticipated the growth that would take place. It is unquestionably one of the highlights of my year, and I benefit greatly from the event. This year, I am joined by Sinclair Ferguson and John Shearer. Both of these men have had and continue to have a significant influence on my life and ministry. There is little doubt that the key to the conference’s influence is to be found in our helping one another to do the Basics well most of the time.

This principle holds true in every area of life, and therefore is applicable to the task of parenting. This month, we are airing a series called Parental Priorities in an endeavor to help families understand and apply essential biblical principles. I hope that you find these studies to be helpful, and that you will encourage young couples to consider this resource for their library. They may download it for free on our website or purchase the messages on CD.

I am also very excited about our making available the children’s catechism called My First Book of Questions and Answers. Just think how the biblical knowledge of parents and grandparents is going to deepen under the guise of teaching the children!

In light of the resources we continue to make available, and because this is not a recurring emphasis of mine, let me encourage you to consider how you may help financially with the ongoing work of the Gospel via Truth For Life.

Having just been in Philadelphia, I am looking forward to visiting Minneapolis and later on, an exciting journey across the border into Canada awaits me!

If your summer plans bring you in our direction, I hope you might consider visiting us on a Sunday at Parkside Church.

I remain ever grateful for your kindness and encouragement. Together under God, we are making a difference.

Yours as ever,
Alistair Begg
