So, how should we interpret the apostle Paul’s identification of himself as a “wretched man?” Modern day onlookers might remark that Paul suffers from a poor self-image, but yet Paul’s admission is the first step towards acknowledging that no amount of good deeds can secure the status promised in Romans 8:1: “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
