Being a Husband-God's Way

Living in a corrupted society matched by a confused Church, followers of Christ must look to Scripture to understand God’s instruction for practical Christian living. In this sermon, Alistair Begg addresses the biblical role of the husband in the marriage relationship. Following the example of Christ, Christian husbands are called to be different from the world, loving and honoring their wives as Christ loved the Church.

Being a Wife-God's Way

What does it mean to be a woman and a wife according to the Bible? Surrounded by the pagan ideals of womanhood, Peter tells us that Christian women living as aliens in this world are called to a higher standard. Alistair Begg teaches us the biblical perspective on marriage, in which equality does not negate the place of submission. Without any loss of dignity, wives are called to submit to their husbands, following the example set by Christ.

Principle and Pattern of Submission, Part Three

Peter, pointing his readers to Christ as the only perfect example of obedience, calls us not to simply follow Christ from a distance but to follow Him close behind. Alistair Begg shares three dimensions of Jesus’ work: He is our example, sin-bearer, and shepherd. This knowledge of who Jesus is should prompt us to walk according to the pattern set by Him.

Principle and Pattern of Submission, Part Two

How can Christians live distinctive lives in a secular culture? Peter addresses this question specifically as it relates to submitting to earthly authority. Our freedom is conditioned by our responsibility to show respect to everyone, love our fellow believers, and fear God, who calls us to be good citizens. Alistair Begg reminds Christians that there will always be those who seek to destroy our faith, but we are to respond by doing good out of obedience to God.
