No organization will rise above its leadership. This is also true of the local church—which is why Paul told Titus to put in order the churches of Crete. Reviewing Paul’s instructions, Alistair Begg describes the contours of biblical eldership, which has sadly been lost in many churches today. Eldership, Scripture teaches, is a necessity, and elders rightly hold authority; they are to work together as a group marked by equality of authority and diversity of function. The church must follow the pattern Scripture sets forth.
