A local church requires a qualified body of elders. God, however, does not prize what we often value—education, status, success, or exceptional gifts. Rather, as Alistair Begg teaches, God desires that those entrusted with His people’s care would be men of personal moral and spiritual character. These men should be just, devout, self-controlled, peaceable, and forbearing, good husbands and fathers and firmly committed to the Bible. Leaders like this provide a godly example for all the flock to follow.
