There Shone a Holy Light: Beholding Christ and Christmas in the Old Testament

How did God prepare His people for the coming Messiah? There Shone a Holy Light: Beholding Christ and Christmas in the Old Testament is an Advent devotional that examines how key Old Testament stories, figures, and symbols find their fulfillment in Jesus. This collection of twenty-five readings explains how people like Noah, Joshua, and Solomon—as well as symbols such as the tabernacle, the ark, and the water from the rock—foreshadow the character and ministry of the Messiah. Readers will learn more about how Christmas emerges as the fulfillment of promises God faithfully preserved across generations.

The Incarnation in the Gospels

The birth of Jesus is one event told from three unique perspectives. Matthew proclaims Him as the promised Messiah. Luke records the songs of praise that surrounded His coming. John lifts our eyes to the eternal Word made flesh. Together, these Gospel accounts reveal the richness of God's plan of redemption. The Incarnation in the Gospels presents twelve biblically rich messages that invite readers to examine these familiar passages with fresh attention. Through careful exposition and thoughtful application, the book reveals the depth and significance of the Gospel accounts of Christ's birth.

Changeless Truth for Changing Times

In Romans, Paul writes, “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent?”

Alistair Begg preaching

As we prepare for another year of global Gospel outreach, it’s your financial and prayerful partnership that makes the “sending” Paul speaks of possible through Truth For Life! Your giving cares for the cost of distributing our teaching to a worldwide audience.

So we all play a vital role. We preach. You send. God saves!

Please give generously at this important time of year.

Listener Stories

Learn why your generosity matters this calendar year-end.

“I listen on my drive to work every morning. Alistair opens the text, explains it plainly, and I get to my desk with something true to hold onto all day.”
William · Ohio
“I lead a women’s Bible study, and the sermons have taught me how to actually study a passage instead of skimming it. That’s changed how I teach.”
Sarah · Texas
“We’re on a fixed income and give what we can each month. Knowing the teaching stays free for someone who can’t give at all—that’s worth it to us.”
Ed & Evelyn · Florida
