Responsible Leadership

1 Peter 5:1–4  (ID: 0128)

In his first letter, the apostle Peter crafted a discipleship manual for all Christians, and especially for young men. Alistair Begg relates Peter’s wisdom to the modern crisis of male leadership not just in the church but in many organizations. The Bible teaches that Christ’s church must be led by a plurality of godly men who follow God’s Word and take responsibility for one another under the ultimate leadership of Jesus alone.

Shepherd the Flock of God

1So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: 2shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight,1 not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you;2 not for shameful gain, but eagerly; 3not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. 4And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
