- Scripture: Mark 2:1
In Mark 6, there are 3 responses of unbelief to Jesus’ teaching from people who knew him well. We should not be surprised, then, when we encounter unbelief to the Gospel today. This example from Christ’s life shows us that the Gospel has always advanced in a context of unbelief.
King Herod had the opportunity to repent when he heard God's Word. He chose to disregard the teaching he heard, though, and was trapped by his carelessness in distressing decisions. Are we falling into a similar trap today?

In this message, Alistair examines a very familiar passage in which we learn about the identity of Christ and His power to touch and change lives forever.

Rest is an important part of staying both physically and spiritually healthy. Jesus reminds his disciples of this truth, and his teaching remains as applicable in our hurried and busy lives today as well.
As we read this familiar story of Jesus walking on the water, we must not lose our bearings. This story is far more significant than telling us that we don’t need to worry about the scary winds and waters. Rather, it is part of the purpose of Mark’s gospel – revealing who the Lord Jesus Christ is and what he came to do.
In Mark 6, the disciples begin to take a larger role in the story Mark is laying out for us. As Jesus prepares these men for ministry, he teaches them the importance of authority, simplicity, hospitality, and urgency in their work. These principles are equally important as we strive to serve God today.
In this passage of Mark, Jesus points out to the Pharisees how they follow the law of their traditions over the law of scripture. This reminds us that many times in our attempts to keep God’s law, we, like the Pharisees, tend to develop our own rules and regulations – and we think that by keeping them, that we’re actually keeping God’s law!
