Refreshment for the Soul & Divine Providence
Refreshment for the Soul: This recently published devotional presents 366 daily readings inspired by the writings of Puritan preacher Richard Sibbes. Sibbes was known in his day as “the Heavenly Doctor” because his sermons were “deeply biblical, spiritually helpful, warmly pastoral, and immensely practical.” Sibbes’ writings overflow with a deep reverence for God and the rich understanding of Scripture characteristic of the Puritans.
This devotional has been compiled by a pastor of 40 years who found Sibbes’ insights to be so encouraging in his own life that he published this devotional to share the writings with others. The book contains updated language for easy comprehension.
Divine Providence, written by Puritan theologian Stephen Charnock, is an in-depth exploration of the intricate and mysterious ways in which God governs and sustains the universe. Originally written in the 17th century, Charnock's work remains a timeless and influential exposition on the relationship between human free will and divine providence.
The book draws from Scripture to examine the complex interplay between God's foreknowledge, His wisdom, and the free will of human beings. Through thoughtful and pastoral analysis, Charnock helps us more fully understand how God's providential care extends to every aspect of creation, from the grandest cosmic events to the smallest details of individual lives.
