Although she was in the company of Jesus, Martha’s priorities were all wrong: she was hoping to do something special for Christ, but her attitude caused her to become distracted and disgruntled. Mary, however, sat at Christ’s feet and listened to Him intently. Alistair Begg points to the gentleness of Jesus as He corrected Martha for her attitude, not her actions, warning us to beware the trap of the performance-driven Christian life.
