“Fix your eyes on Jesus” is wise counsel for committed Christians and spiritual investigators alike. Alistair Begg points out that the writer of Hebrews helps us to focus on Christ by directing our attention to His priestly role. As our Great High Priest, Jesus intercedes on our behalf and is sympathetic to our plight. Through His mediation, we are able to hold firmly to our faith and boldly approach God’s throne of grace.
14Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
