At the beginning of His ministry, Jesus commanded Levi, the ostracized tax collector, to follow Him, then later dined at his house—much to the shock of the self-righteous Pharisees! The responses of Levi, the Pharisees, and Jesus Himself, Alistair Begg explains, stand in stark contrast to one another. Levi immediately obeyed Jesus’ call, while the Pharisees scoffed. In the end, Jesus confronted the Pharisees for their religiosity, declaring that He did not come to call the righteous but sinners for whom He would die.
