Persuasive Preaching, Part Two, A

Persuasive Preaching, Part Two, A

In the New Testament book of Acts, there’s a colorful scene in chapters 25 and 26 that teaches us powerful lessons on persuasion. Alistair Begg describes the context of this exchange between Paul, Festus, King Agrippa and a cast of others who sought to accuse him. More

The Pastor's Study, Volume 1

Paul’s words in 2 Timothy 4:2-5 are the mandate for all those who are called to pastoral ministry. Martyn Lloyd-Jones once commented that "the work of preaching is the highest and greatest and most glorious calling to which anyone can ever be called." He went on to say that "the most urgent need in the Christian church today is for true preaching and as it is the greatest and most urgent need in the church it is, obviously, the greatest need in the world also." To a generation in which the priority of preaching has been sadly diminished, the apostolic mandate remains. As a pastor places his confidence in the power of the Gospel itself, as applied by the Holy Spirit, the task of proclamation must be his clear priority. We trust that these studies will prove to be a great encouragement to pastors in this God-given task. As we remain true to this calling those in our congregation will become mature and grounded in the sound doctrine which is essential to all spiritual growth.

The Pastor's Study, Volume 5

Pastors may be tempted to pitch their messages as if they were product commercials, but must learn to preach the truths of God’s Word with boldness and clarity, having full confidence in the sufficiency of Scripture. Sadly, the priority of Gospel preaching has been diminished in today’s churches - yet the apostolic mandate remains. In this series, Alistair Begg emphasizes the importance of a Christ-centered ministry. Unless God’s grace is properly understood, it will never take precedence in preaching. When a pastor places his confidence in the power of the Gospel itself, as applied by the Holy Spirit, proclaiming the Good News will become the passionate desire of his heart. We trust that these studies will prove to be a great encouragement to pastors in their God-given task.

The Pastor's Study, Volume 6

In every generation, pastors face difficult decisions regarding how to prioritize the competing demands placed upon them. Today is no different, and pastors often find themselves stretched thin by the demands of ministry and wearied by the expectations of their congregations. The Bible speaks clearly into this situation, as we learn in this compilation of messages from Alistair Begg. The pastor must give himself wholeheartedly to the proclamation of the Gospel -- a duty built on the foundation of prayer and personal holiness. With this priority in view, the pastor can evangelize faithfully and equip the congregation in the confidence that God Himself empowers the work. It is our hope that pastors will be encouraged in Gospel ministry and that local churches will be strengthened through this series of messages for pastors.
