In Colossians 3, after issuing a series of stirring calls to the church as a whole, the apostle Paul shifted his attention toward the Christian family. This turn may seem surprising—and yet, as we read Paul’s words, we discover that the lives of individual families and that of God’s family are inseparably linked. As husbands, wives, parents, and children seek to live in love and obedience before God, they do so as those adopted through Christ into God’s holy household.

In this series, Alistair walks us through Paul’s teachings on the family roles in Colossians 3. These instructions highlight how both marital and parent-child relationships can display the Gospel message to a lonely, lost, and fractured culture. When we embrace the Bible’s pattern for family life, our homes testify to the blessings of Christ’s love and lordship, not only benefiting those who dwell within but also transforming our society and world.
