If you are blessed with a long ministry in one place, Alistair Begg reflects, you will encounter many delights and dangers in the pastorate. Pastoral ministry’s primary task—preaching the Gospel—is a chief delight, along with seeing one’s flock grow in the truth. Length of time allows one to outlast difficulties, develop leadership skills, and invest in a community for the long term. Yet the dangers of despondency and laziness must be avoided as one learns always to depend on God’s help.
